Tamil Movie Review

The combination of Ajith and Saran again proved to be a hit. Aasal is a huge celebration for all Thala Ajith fans and more over its his 49th film. Ajith is also as co-director of the movie. He is even credited for the story, screenplay and dialogues along with the director Saran and Yuhi Sethu.

Aasal is a complete Ajith centric entertainer with lots of hifi style and sophistication. but the script is weak compared to his previous hit Billa. but the movie does not leave you bored or exasperated. Ajith satisfies his fans, but Saran disappoints a bit with the way he has handled such a great team, better results were definitely on. Visually pleasing with about 2.5 hours of running time, Aasal is will not have you yawning, nor will it have you asking for more.

Aasal been made under Sivaji Productions has all sorts of richness in it. whether it is the sets, or interiors, or the outdoor locations and also with costumes, no expense has been spared. The film is mainly shot in France, with a portion happening in Mumbai. The richness of the streets in France has been transferred beautifully onto screen by Cameraman Prashanth. The camera work keeps the viewer visually pleased, partially compensating for flaws in the script. Action should have been better. Only the fight between Ajith and Kelly close to the interval stirs up excitement, it is plain on all other occasions. Music by Bharadwaj does not lend any strength to the movie, except Dushyantha and the BGM looks pretty unimaginative.

Aasal is all about Ajith and his persona. Ajith, the star, has been given more importance than the script itself. But the star have carried role with ease. He strides the screen with ease, having a presence that only few others can boast off. His looks in every frame is so stylish what to say, the hairstyle, the sideburns and the cigar really suit him well. In fact, Ajith’s presence is one of the main factors that stops one from getting bored. Sampath, Rajeev Krishna and Pradeep Rawat have done their jobs as villains without too great an impact. Sameera Reddy has done her role pretty well in the movie, but the scope for performance is quite less. Bhavana looks cute in a role that demands only as much. She however impresses with her dance moves in the first part of the Dushyantha song. The silent tussle between Sameera and Bhavana over who gets Ajith is cute and Saran could have extended it a bit. Yuhi Sethu have tried hard on few comic moments, succeeding partially on the rare occasion. Last but not least Prabhu is a dignified presence have done his role very suoerb.

Coming to the story, Its about the vendetta between three brothers over their family property, Sampath Kumar and Rajeev Krishna are the two brothers on one side with their extreme greed over their wealth with the righteous third trying to stop the family from breaking down. The third brother who is the righteous one, is none other than Ajith Kumar. The vendatta that exists as an undercurrent in the presence of their father (Ajith again) turns to the worst and personal after he passes away. It grows bigger with the two brothers joining in to elbow out Ajith. He graciously steps aside, only wanting to keep cordial relations. But, the two brothers are just not able to handle the huge wealth and the responsibility that it brings. Their wealth attracts all sorts of trouble and it is then our ultimate star Ajith who come's in and save his brothers. Do things end there or does the vendetta continue, does their wealth disintegrate the family and how does Ajith conquer all the odds tofind out watch the movie in the theater.

For all the Thala fans its a visually treat for you. Don't miss it.

Soundarya Rajinikanth should be appreciated for avoiding a predictable, contrived formula plot and choosing a bold theme for her maiden production venture.

Though Venkat Prabhu's third outing doesn't match his earlier ones, Goa does have its moments.

The story begins in a village Pannaipuram (Venkat Prabhu's native place) near Madurai, where Saamikannu (Premgi Amaran), Vinayagam(Jai) and Ramarajan (Vaibhav) are friends.
The trio does nothing besides indulging in mendacious activities. The irked villagers decide to teach them a lesson and the panchayat chief orders that the three irritating chaps should be separated for the peace of the village.

They rob the temple jewellery and run away to Madurai to meet one of their friends, Azhagar.

When they discover that the friend has married a foreigner whom he met in Goa and is leaving soon for London, they set off for Goa looking for rich foreigners whom they can marry and settle down with abroad.

When they reach the land of sun, sand, surf and sexy women, they meet a cou ple of gay restaurateurs Jack (Arvindh Akash) and Danny (Sampath) who run a resort and help the trio out. Roshini (Piaa bajpai) a singer at the resort falls for Vinayagam. Meanwhile Jesika (Melony), a white woman who'd met Saami earlier at a Madurai wedding, bumps into him in Goa and falls in love with him. Ramarajan's life also takes a new turn when he meets Suhasini Fernando (Sneha), a millionaire who owns a gambling spot called Casino Royale. With the help of Jack and Danny, the village bumpkins get an image makeover. The rest of the film, narrated in a hilarious way, is about whether they succeed in their devious plans to marry rich gals.

Venkat Prabhu's brother Premgi's role has an edge over the others. He utilizes it fully and plays to his strength. Equally impressive are Jai and Vaibhav. Jai with his broken English dialect evokes laughter every now and then.

List of Kollywood film releasing for Pongal 2010 are Aayirathil Oruvan, Kutty, Naanayam and Porkkalam. The battle for the box-office for this Pongal seems to be going ferocious. Its gonna be a battle between the brothers Selvaraghavan and Dhanush as Aayirathil Oruvan and Kutty will release on same day January14. All the famous theaters across Tamilnadu have booked both these films which are likely to open big.

Aayirathil Oruvan is one of the most expected film of the year which is also considered as the hottest film, after the promos which are frequently screened over famous television channels and also over Internet. Producer R Raveendran has sold the film for very high price in most of the areas. Moreover the songs of this movie which is composed by GV Prakash are listed at the top on the chart. GV Prakash, have worked so hard like never before for this movie and may be thats the reason the songs are scorching the charts.




The next most expected movie of the year is Kutty, starring Dhanush and Shriya, which is apparently remake of the Telugu blockbuster film Arya which is directed by Mithran Jawahar his last film was Yaaradi Nee Mohini with Dhanush and Nayanthara which was also a superhit movie. Dhanush claims that Kutty is a perfect family entertainer with great music scored by Devi Sri Prasad. The film holds many twists and turns to make the audience laugh, cry and also to be entertained. The film doesn't have any villains and any sort of violence, may be thats why its considered as a perfect family entertainer.


The famous Producer SPB Charan, who is known for making fresh movies like Chennai-28, has decided to release his edge-of-the-seat bank heist story Naanayam, starring Prasanna, Sibiraj and new girl Ramya Raj. Singer SPB, is also have done an important role in this movie. Music of this movie is scored by James Vasanthan which is already a hit, with actor Simbu and music director Devi Sri Prasad singing a song. Debutant director Sakthi K Rajan, has directed this movie in different manner. This movie will be considered as huge break for Sibiraj who plays a negative role in the film. The film is an action thriller and which deals with a bank robbery.


The fourth movie for Pongal release is Porkkalam, Its an action cum adventure kinda movie which deals with seven bad men — Kishore, Biju Menon, Lal, Sampath, Ponvannan, Nagendran and Tinnu Anand. Kannada actress Smitha is the heroine. The film is directed by debutant director Bandi Saroj Kumar. The film’s story is based on love and revenge. It has been shot with four cameras with wide angle lens. The director loves the concept of the battlefield and that’s why he has chosen this title which is explained as the film unfolds.
Concludes Abirami Ramanathan, “It is the biggest season for movies in Tamil Nadu and we are expecting the box-office to boom during this period. There is a special audience as seeing a movie is part of the traditional Pongal ritual.”

According to the Hindu mythology Vamanan is a character who is small in nature but has done some mighty deeds. Taking a cue from this, debutant director Anand has cast young actor Jai in his thriller film about a young man who faces several problems, but manages to comes out on the top at the end.

The film starts with the shooting of a commercial where Vinodh is the cameraman and top model Pooja (Lakshmi Rai) poses for him. A remote operated camera placed in a small helicopter captures the entire shoot. Then at one point time, the helicopter loses control and gets stuck in a tree in a neighboring farm house. Then whole crew sets out in search of the small helicopter and finally they locates it.

Even when the helicopter was struck the camera which was attached to it was recording. After when the helicopter was removed and they saw the video what the camera recorded and were totally shocked to see the footage of a state minister’s murder(Delhi Ganesh) by another minister Anbu Chezhian (Sampath).


Mean while, Anand (Jai) who aspires to become an actor comes to the city from his village and stays with his childhood friend (Santhanam), who work as a cameraman with a famous TV channel. Anand’s efforts to enter tinsel town prove futile, and he meets Divya (debutant Priya) in a railway station and falls in love with her. One day, Anand meets John (Rahman) at the station and is impressed by the way John catches a chain snatcher and sooner they become friends. He also meets Pooja and becomes friend with her in the hope of getting a break in films.

Later it’s revealed that minister Anbu has a close connection with the Commissioner of Police, Kailasam (Thalaivasal Vijay) and then find that Vinodh has the tape. Then Anbu and Kailasam’s men kill Vinodh, but fail to find the tape. They then turn to Pooja, who is eventually killed and the blame falls on Anand, who has been betrayed by John. After a series of chase scenes to find the tape, Anand finally manages to locate it. How he hands over the tape to the former CoP (producer Ravendran in a cameo) forms the rest of the movie.

Vamanan is Jai’s first movie as a solo hero, after his roles in Chennai-28 and Subramaniyapuram. Though he manages to impress with his natural expressions, his conscious effort to imitate mass heroes like Vijay and Simbhu is easilyunderstood and with her girl-next-door looks, Priya is just above adequate. Santhanam’s comedy is superb.
The movie’s highpoint is Aravindh Krishna’s cinematography, which captures Chennai in fresh and different tones. Yuvan Shankar Raja’s songs are very mediocre.
The major drawback is that the screenplay lacks the punch of a thriller. However, the last half-an-hour of the film, leading up to the climax has been well executed.
